Idiots on the Road

Although this can apply to all forms of reckless driving, I'm gonna start the topic with an event that occurred on the afternoon of August 24th:

My family decided to be lazy bums and went to the Speedway at our corner to get some crap to eat. While we were driving back, my mom noticed that there was smoke coming from a van driving down the road towards us. As soon as it passed, we saw flames from under the van, honked the horn to attempt to warn the driver and called 911.

Guess what the van did once it realized it was aflame?

It pulled up to a gas pump!

The driver then opened his/her trunk and got their belongings out of the blazing vehicle while gawkers (well, I guess we counted, we pulled into a parking lot to see whether or not the station would blow up!) looked on.

A police officer showed up within a few minutes while the van continued to burn, engulfed in smoke.

The attendant at the station must have been HORRIFIED! A flaming van right next to a freaking gas pump, the driver carting out their belongings from the trunk.. What an ass! I honestly don't think they realized the dumb decision they made (after all, it's not every day your vehicle decides to burn), but that driver endangered MANY lives - it's a miracle the station didn't explode as we thought it would.

Thankfully, a fire truck and ambulance showed up before too long and put the fire out. By the time we went home, we could see that the windshield had the color and texture of a toasted marshmallow and the lower half was completely charred. Huh..

Sooo, putting this story into account, what are your thoughts on the common sense of drivers on the road, specifically during emergencies?

I think they've got some learning to do before I can feel safe on the road.

If your car starts to burn, breaks go bye bye etc. 90% of ppl can't stay cool!

Why did the car burn at all? Cars don't start burning while they drive, they don't even explode if they crash against a tree, nor do they start burning then (Although in Hollywood everything explodes....). I never heard that a car started to burn on the road, well, maybe it all would be better if the USA would, like germany, use something like the TüV.

Everytime i drive everyone speeds past me and it makes me sad that i can't keep up with them. If i had my license i would but i just have my permit and if i get caught i'd have to wait and get it when i'm 18.



And this one experience when i was driving home from Grand Rapids there was this truck gettting on the expressway into my lane and i had this asshole on the side of me going my same speed and not letting me get over. I had to slam on the brakes and pull over to the left in order to not get crushed by the stupid truck.
