Homosexual marriages in California !!

I heard it in the news today that in California, homosexual couples (both male and female, of course) are allowed to get married from now on.

I think this is great and a big step forward coz its only the second state where this is legal at all in the USA.

Whats your opinion on this topic? Gay marriages yes or no? For me its definitely a big YESSS

Ok, you belong to those ppl who listen to the news and forget about a week later what it was all about. So far, homosexual marriages were allowed before in California. For some years it was okay and then they recognized a phrase in the laws which weren't clear and had to check if their laws really allow those marriages. So they put out the law for homosexual marriages and checked it.
So now, they did their research and found now that it is allowed.

Congratz California! It's nice that you made this step years back and that you gave it a second chance after doubts!

I'm neutral about it, don't really give a shit either way. Can't say I'm happy, can't say I'm mad, wouldn't care if they did away with it. And this is coming from a boy who's most likely gonna end up dating a man some day.

Okay, I dont belong to he people who forget the news a week later, I know it was allowed before but now theyve comfirmed it and got to the point where actual weddings have already taken place. Thats what I wanted to say.

well...there was a homosexual marriage in Armenia 2 years ago...i don't find it so good,especially because the wedding was in Echmadzin,the main church of Armenia...but i don't care.Nice idea Darkstar

I think those who dont really approve gay marriages and stuff could point out why exactly.. for religious reasons or sth like that. Would be interesting to know, for me at least

Well, there are a lot of pros and cons regarding to gay marriages.
Silke, I guess one of them is actually the religion in Armenia and the so called behavioural codex. It constrains many people's life and is a kind of principe which you have to follow. If you differ from the majority, then you count as an outsider.
In my opinion it is very sad, especially that people are still so damn close-minded and don't care about the feelings of an individual but just care that the superficiality is "good" in the eyes of others and that it suits to the social norms. And that is wrong. It is wrong always to think about what the neighbour is gonna say about this.
Anyway, I am a kind of ambivalent and see both sides of a gay marriage. I understand the wishes of the couple but also try to comprehend the dislike of the opponent.

I think love is not limited to one kind of people. Love is free itself and therefore real freedom goes hand in hand with allowing gay couples to marry.
To see it from the religious part, God gave us the world to rule it. Humans are equal to God (Genesis 1:26 "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." ") and so we should be wise enough to set on our own whom we love^^

Interesting, but I kinda disagree. Okay, God gave people the world to rule it and the bible says humans are equal to God. So why then are we seperated in male and female?
Right, for propagation/reproduction. The world should be inhabited by humans and animals (even though humans are animals). This can only be when men and women are together and get children. That is the actual point.
There are also many other aspects regarding religion. I just want to show, that the quote of Brad is not of use and is too blanket.

Okay, I see what you mean... then again I wanna point out another question: if God created this world and EVERYTHING thats in it, but esp. the human race ... how come people are homosexual at all? Must be Gods will, right? And if it was his will, why shouldnt they live happily and be together like everyone else?!

Anyway,I totally support this law,and gay marriages,gay relationships and everything that has something to do with 'gay'.I think everyone has the right to love,and to be loved,and that should have nothing to do with law of some country.If marriages between man and woman are allowed,why shouldn't gay marriages be allowed?
It is familiar that people were gay in antique Greece,so that's not smth new,some trend or smth like that,people were gay since the beginning of human race,it was just not public,now that it is,suddenly it became smth you should be ashamed of.That is obviously the wrong view,if you love someone,it doesn't matter what sex is that person,love knows no race,sex or age,that's why it's so beautiful.

I guess we talked about God and stuff coz whenever you talk about gay people, you somehow get to religion and stuff because religion (Christianity and some others) are mainly the reason why nowadays homosexuals are sometimes still treated like they were sick.

Don't get me wrong guys, I am pro guy marriages. But I try to see both sights and try to understand them.
And Roby, talking about God in this topic is important, cause we discuss this topic and interpret why so many people are against gay marriages, their reasons are also connected with their beliefs. So you have no alternative.
And for me it is exciting to see how people see it combined with religion and so on, instead of just saying "i am for-" or "I am against gay marriages"

But you see,I don't believe in God,and what christianity thinks about gays,I really don't care.Once my friend showed me few quotes from the Bible which kinda say that they were gay people,and that they were connected with Jesus etc. It was a long ago,so I can't remember the exact quote,and I really didn't try to remember it.
It's sad that we let the Church affects the politics,Church is supposed to be only about religion,and not about politics,they interrupt the politics more and more,that's why most countries don't have the laws as free as they should have,which obviously includes gay marriages.
I was never against the christianity nor any other religion,but the way they're trying to control the politics just makes me sick.

If you take it to a religious discussion you should also think, that the three holy books were written in times people thought different. Like some religions say you're not allowed to eat a specific type of animals. Mainly because you'd get ill too easy, because too less animals where there, it was to dangerous to hunt them or many other reasons which stand behind the rule.
I think that a rule to forbid gay marriages and gay love exists from the fear that the nations would have no new children afterwards. But today we know tht we're enough humans on the world, we also know that being gay is no mental desease, it won't kill you and that it is quite normal. Penguins (like many other birds)are gay sometimes, but hey, penguins are still on this earth!
Since humans have sex mainly for fun and not for making new humans I think we don't need a rule which tells us who our partner is. Also it won't bring the world down, because most people are hetero. We still have enough hetero couples who want to have children.

Religion has to go with the time. People think that those rules were given to us in directly this words. Even if they were, do you think god would still tell us this words? I think that religion should finally be seen as a part of society which needs development like the society itself also need. It's not fitting to us anymore, so we need to check the words again now. We have to put out things which are rules addressed to a socety 2000 years and more ago.
The only other eason would be to go back. Living like in the middle ages makes you able to live after the Bible.

@Nephtys: Many ancient nations had no problem with gays. Sometimes it was pretty common to have at least one of your sex partners from your own sex.
