| Before we fill topics with annecdotes too much, we can write down here. And because it was asked, I make the beginning.
I'm not that kind of person who needs music all day, I'm also not the person who is the biggest metal fan at all. Somehow, when I was 12, I started watching MTV and reading those teenage magazines like most people do in this age. I was lucky to watch as first clip in my life "Butterfly" by CXT and not a boy band. Me and my best friend liked the milleniums msuic much and stayed long times on MTV watching gladly what was there. I came from CXT to LP which was my favorite band for years. LP made rock those times -call it nu rock if you like, I don't care- with much melodic in. It's a thing I like. So it was no wonder I also liked the song Aerials of a band I couldn't remember the name. Nor that I understood any word of the song or the title. I was in the beginning of learning english and you must admit a name like "Sytem of a Down" is hard to remember, if you can't amke any connection with the name. I was amazed by the nice singer -nowadays I understand it, Serj looks quite similar to my father whom I lost early- and those dark brown eyes and this angel like voice mesmerized me. I have to admit those times I did never realised that the band has four members and what the video was all about. A few days ago I watched it again and finally found out the meaning. I spend long evenings at the TV waiting for my favorite songs -well, those years you really could watch MTV- but however, Aerials dissapeard like every single does. Spending my few pocket money on music was really hard, because I needed to save it two month to buy any album. The albums of CXT and LP were more important for me and I soon forgot the name of System's album and the name of the band. Toxicity wasn't played that muchas Aerials was and system dissapeard out of my mind. Their video recorded on several cassettes I never watched this time -I watched them years later, when the entire discography of System was standing in my shelf- Around a year later (it can also be 1/2 year)I read any article -those times I was fanatically collecting every piece of LP, a thing I now refuse to do with any band- dealing with the topic "Who repeats the LP-wonder" (I said already I was reading teenage magazines). They talked about SOAD, POD, Nickleback and another band, don't ask me which. Well, I was irrated by the picture of this band simply shortened to "SOAD". It showed a cruel picture of them, Shavo with blue jeans and a whit, sleevles shirt waving a broom and looking grimmly in the camera. The three other behind him trying their best to look at pissed as possible. The article talked about the KROQ's show of 2001 (I guess it's this, the show were SOAD weren't allowed to play and the fans simply destroyed all the equiq) and I just thought "What a stupid band!" Years passed and I had my first live shows, the first ever was in 2003 at the Rock am Ring fetsival in the age of 15 (not bad, eh!). Well I missed System , they played 2002. 2004 I was also there and I went to some other concerts, listening to LP as the hardest (I never liked Metallica those times). In the late summer of 2004 Sony needed some money. So they started a big advertisment action selling CDs of their artist for only 7,99 to 9,99. I read one of those ads by coincidence and it showed -between many, many others- the three records of SOAD. I looked at it and as I saw the cover of Toxicity it made me scream out "System of a Down? They made Aerials!" My best friend looked at me "Who? What?" and I started talking at her, the cool video, this nice song, she had to remember, but she didn't. Well, It was summer and I got a lot of money from my mother to spend my vacations. I walked out and bought finally -three years too late- Toxicity. A day later I bought the other two records and well, it was the first time I regretted to bought an album without knowing more than one track. The self-titled I hated. It was loud, it was ugly in my ears and eyes. Steal this Album was listenable, if you let out some tracks. However, I regretted more having a CD I don't listen to than to bought it. So I gave it a second chance. I sat down, looked up the entire lyrics of STA and listened to all three albums while reading the text. I don't know how, but after it, I liked it. The more I listened to it, the more I liked it. Nowadays songs like sugar, spiders, Mr.Jack, Darts and Suggestions are on my fav list! As I heard of Mez/Hyp (first hand, I was reading now hard-rock magazines) I counted the days to the release date. At the end of 2006 I got internet again and was able to sign in at soadfans, a relationship which lasted only a year. But in this year I learned much about the band.
However, I guess if I had heard as first song Sugar and not Aerials, I would've hated SOAD. It was luck to listen to Aerials and luck to find the ad. I don't know if it's because I'm now smarter and more adult, but I discovered, that I I ran after idols my whole puberty through, I changed my style from punk to rock, to metal, to something else I can't name, I guess there was also a bit of EMO without knowing what EMO is. Nowadays I don't need to hide behind a uniform. I stopped reading teenage magazines, they're too lame, I stopped reading hard-rock magazines because I don't like the bands in it besides Metallica and SOAD. There's no genre I prefer. I prefer SOAD, or now, Serj, the slower songs, the acoustic songs. In the small shelf at my desk there are these CDs (The others are in a big box, because they're far too much^^): Serj-ETD, FTM-Fables from a Mayfly, Schiller Weltreise, Popcorn Live 99, Digimon soundtrack, SOAD-all 5 albums, Enya-Only Time, Brit-I'm a slave 4 U, Groove Coverage-Moonlight Shadow. I don't care if someone laughs about my taste of music. I like to call my style smiling "New Grunge" because I really don't care about my clothes. I achieved this goal by SOAD, and that's pretty cool, but no reason to run after them. I can even critise them. It was me who first said "Serj sold his soul"and well, I was brazen enough to tell him that his album is not that good. (I wanted to tell him "HEy Serj, the lyrics of ETD suck!" but I thought, it would be unfair to tell him that, after a concert when he wants to chill out a bit. THANK YOU SOAD!

| I donīt want to type as much as bradeither... My whole life I was seeking for a band , which i could like everything..ALL their music and ALL of their lyrics . never found one . In 2001 I was watching MTV on early morning..as always... and there was "Chop-Suey" - video... And I was like petrified...that great voice , that guitarist - wtf? - and the somehow never-heard rythms...i didnīt understand half of the lyrics back then . I came to buy toxicity and STA . But in 2005 , when I heard there was a new album coming , I got really enthusiastic . I LOVED mezmerize so much . played it every morning on my way to work ( I was driving with the bus at that times ) , and again when I came home and in between too . knew the lyrics by heart very fast . and then began the time , when I really THOUGHT about their lyrics ...all of them . I was beginnning to search the web for everything written about them . thatīs how I came to soadfans. com...as the most ppl,I guess . I had to do it from work , so I didnīt log in . and short time later I saw some live stuff on MTV ( astoria and Hurricane , only parts , of course) and I knwew. I must have more.... when i got my own PC , i was registering on soadfans.com... somehow SOAD and their music are responsible for alot ofchages in my life . somewhen I learned to know Berjsär/Brad.... and what followed , brought me here...*bows*

| K, so I was about 9 or 10, and I used to watch a bunch of movies on the internet. I watched one with this song in the credits that I really liked, and found out it was by System of a Down. Lol, about a year later I had Toast and PIG. | |

| I don't know how long is my story going to be,but let's start. I think I was in 7th grade when one of my friends started to listen to SOAD. She really annoyed me ,especially her music taste, cause she was like always listening to the worst band you can find. So I thought SOAD was the same,I never really looked up for their songs etc. At some point she stopped listening to them and started listening to folk music, which also annoys me. This summer,my friends and I formed a band. All of them like SOAD,and I was the only one who didn't really know much about them. The guys adore them, they're their idles, and one even dresses like Daron. So once they played me Chop Suey, and told me we should make a song which would song like that one.I actually liked the song without knowing it was made by SOAD.After the song finished,I asked the guys whom was that song from, and they said SOAD. I was shocked.Couldn't believe what I just heard. So I asked the guys if they could borrow me some SOAD CDs.They gave me every single album and I started loving SOAD,actually adoring them. I admit that I like every piece of music they make, every single note they play, every single word they sing or write. For me,they're one of the best bands and I simply do not care what other people say. I know I'm not their fan for a long time, but I know a lot of things about them,so,yes,I consider myself SOAD fan. One day I found out about SOADfans.com and decided to register. At first I didn't know anyone.Eventually,I met Ely (Lady_Dolmayan),Brad,Adam,Silke,Stevie and lots of other people that make being a SOAD fan even more interesting. | |

| Long ago, in a land far far away..... Not really but... yea. ANYWAY.
I was like 8 living with my mom, and I remember being really bored and looking through channels and seeing Chop Suey! somewhere[don't ask for details it was 6 years ago] and I fell in love with it.
I never knew who it was really, or the name of the song, but I would hear it on the radio every once in a while and rocking out to it with my sister.
It never really changed from taht till I was in... 6th grade I think, and Mez came out and my cousin burnt it for me and I fell in LOVE. Listened to it day and night, 24/7. Then when I got an MP3 player my step brother put all of Toxicity, Steal This Album!, Mezmerize and Hypnotize on it.
So they were a part of my daily life after that, and I started getting the actual albums and what not blah blah blah, and now they are like... my lifestyle lol.

pffff Haha, please, Brad, let me be around and put in on tape when you do it ! Pleeeease !! My story of becoming an SOAD fan?! Okay, here we go: from 1995 on I was what people consider a Goth. I listened to Goth music (mostly German bands) and metal like Sepultura, Metallica and stuff. One day I switched on MTV in 2002 and saw... Aerials. I went, what a bunch of psychos, especially the guitarist (not kidding, I thought that!) but the song and this voice... was so different from what I was used to listen to. But I liked it. After watching it over and over again, I bought Toxicity. And was shocked! When it opened with Prison Song, I thought, oh no, wtf is this now. But well, I listened to it and got used to it and then bought my first t-shirt and the other cds.... yeah, I love them ever since and their music helped me through hard times, to I still love them and always will. Its sad I never got to see them perform but at least I will see Serj soon End of Story

| Okay, how I became a soadfan.. I forgot it. j/k A long time ago a schoolmate listened to his IPod and offered me a headphone. He listened to Toxicity. I immediately felt in love with this song and asked many questions about the interpreters. He said it was a band called System of a Down. Weird, i never heard of them. But I actually wasn't into rock. I did a search about them and found many articles in the internet and listened to their music on youtube. The music fascinated me and I bought all of their albums. Since then I adore their music... | |

| My story, not so long and kinda sad.. Back in 2003, I was doing absolutely nothing on an old forum and went to a "favorite bands" topic. System of a Down was listed in someone's post and I asked about them. The guy said they were a "somewhat underground" band (..kay) that played rock/metal music. I was intrigued, but left the band alone for a while. Then I went to my friend's house in early '05 and heard her dad playing Mezmerize in the car. I loved the music, but I had no idea who the band was until I saw an ad for Mezmerize on TV back at home. I really wanted the CD, but had no money to get it.. Later on in '05, I saw the video for Hypnotize on MTV. It turned out that Media Play, a store my family visited often, was closing and having a sale later that week. We went to the store a few days after I saw the Hypnotize video and there was a copy of Hypnotize left, so I got one and ended up having a conversation with the cashier about System's Mezmerize tour. By mid-2006, I had all of System of a Down's albums and some other things (posters, shirts, etc). I eventually convinced my mom to take me to the Vic Theatre in Chicago to see Serj's first solo performance and got my first SOAD-band-member signature.. Yay me. The end.

| My story about becoming a SOAD-fan is rather short, too...
Iīve always been a fan of punk, metal etc.
One Sunday morning back in 2001 - I was badly hung over - I switched on MTV, where I saw the video "Toxicity".
From then on I found the music of SOAD to be a perfect "picture" of the times weīre living in and couldnīt stop listening from then on...
Cheers,
